This chandelier by Casa Padrino works not with hanging drops but with curved glass. Solid crystal rods are formed into arcs, hang from a gold-coloured ring and interlock so their loops close into a woven basket.
The model is Venetian glass craft: there such rods are bent while hot, which makes every arc turn out slightly differently. Precisely this small irregularity sets the form apart from a rigid ring of prisms and lets the light run in soft, elongated lines rather than hard points.
The rods are hollow-ground on the inside. Each arc therefore carries the light along its curve, much like a fibre, and glows across its full length instead of only at the edge.
At 35 cm in diameter and only 6 kg this is the smallest of the three sizes in this series. It suits places where a large chandelier would be too imposing: above a side table, in the hallway, in a bedroom, in a guest cloakroom or in pairs over a narrow counter. The same model is available larger at 41 and 61 cm.
